He trains profusely, overusing the ruby’s power and causing a tremendous strain on his body and the gem. He casts away his old life, vowing to never rely on anyone ever again, and become strong in order to take revenge on Shadow, and the rest of the world. The furious jackal challenges the Ultimate Life-form and is badly beaten, causing him to snap.
Eggman sends his robots to retrieve the rest of the squad to use in similar experiments, and tricks Finn into believing that Shadow had killed them and Jay had betrayed them. The hedgehog defeats the jackal squad with ease and leaves their unconscious bodies in the jungle until he can come back to arrest them.
After the deed is done the doctor kidnaps the young jackal to use him in experiments with his counterfeit rubies, and Shadow attacks the base. Eggman blackmails Jay, the youngest of the squad, into sending a distress signal to G.U.N in order to attract one of their agents, and get rid of the pests for him. He makes Finn train with the original ruby, honing his abilities with it while he researches its properties and begins to produce counterfeits.Įggman notices that while Finn is willing follow most commands, he refuses to put his squad at risk, and so the doctor decides that they are in the way of his plans. After the jackal’s first contact with the gem, Eggman is no longer able to activate it, but notices that Finn still can. The jackal squad reluctantly follows Finn when he makes an alliance with the doctor, craving the ruby’s power. In reality the Gem was a conscious, pure entity that was trying to warn the jackal of the dangers that were to come and trying to seek help before it was completely corrupted. He mistakenly viewed its illusion of a desolate world as his own desire due to the evil the ruby was tainted with. Their leader, Finn, got a taste of the ruby’s power first hand when making contact with it. It was at this point he was attacked by the jackal squad, who intended on raiding his base for loot, seeing as how Eggman had unknowingly built his base in their territory. Eggman found the ruby near his recently built desert base, and studied its powers for further use, corrupting the once pure gem with his evil presence. The original Phantom ruby that Eggman found was a naturally occurring gem that had been hidden on Angel Island until the events of Sonic Mania, and due to those events was discovered and sent forward in time. So props to whoever posted that I totally adopted that headcannon. There was one more post that inspired me, it was about Infinite literally not being able to disobey Eggman after the ruby was implanted, but I can’t find it. * w I love your silent redemption arc, your posts were what made me decide to write my fic.
